The issue can be reproduced on the debian porterboxes (e.g. perotto.debian.net).
I'm willing to help to fix it, but lacking perl knowledge.
Small testcase would be great.

and the failure in ops-bitwise might be that the indx type is only 32-bits on
those platforms ???
