I did a dumb thing, and it cost me my aliases file. Fortunately, it was
small and could be reconstructed from 'makealiases -dump'
According to the courier documentation, aliases are found in
/etc/courier/aliases. This can be either a file or a directory; if it's
a directory then all files contained in there are used.
I'm using courier for my home mail server, and the extra bit of typing
when editing /etc/couier/aliases/system was bothering me, so I foolishly
made a copy of /etc/courier/aliases/system, deleted
/etc/courier/aliases/, and then moved the copy to form
/etc/courier/aliases. Running makealiases worked, and everything was
happy. Until I upgraded to 0.45.4-3. When that happened, it deleted
/etc/courier/aliases and created an empty directory in its place.
That's kind of anti-social.
Is there an easy way to keep this from happening? It's clearly a "don't
do that then" type bug for the user (me), but it'd be nice to get a
warning, or keep a copy of the alias file or *something*.
