Hi Simon and all,

In a rush I did not describe the scenario correctly that I have now worked 
around.

You are correct that 'login' keyring was not being opened due to setting 
automatic login. Removing
the 'login' keyring and setting the RDP password works fine across reboots.

Apologies for the noise and I am closing the bug report.
