It does not appear that rsync uses an existing ls-lR file. There should
be an option to specify an ls-lR file. This could really speed up updates
for large mirrors (like the Debian archive and web pages).

Hello James,
the issue was well explained by Paul 21 years ago. No further activities
since then. It is not a bug and not an appropriate feature in the scope
of rsync.
