IMHO the desktop file mozilla-firefox.desktop should contain the line Exec=firefox %u instead of just Exec=firefox to let the desktop environments that implement the freedesktop specification know that firefox can handle URLs by itself. For example, this will avoid problems with opening links from KDE apps: If KDE doesn't know that firefox can open URLs it will download the HTML page first and call firefox with the then local file. Any relative links in such a page won't work.
