This seems to happen with messages in iso-8859-1 as well, see for instance http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=62;bug=665959. I thought something was wrong with my mailer, but the copy of the message in my "Sent" folder looks perfectly fine. I attach it (gzip'ed to prevent further mangling).
