Which videoplayer/browser/... did you use? Version? Was that using the same version of nvidia-glx? Which one? Can you try the -3 (and -4) releases inbetween? You can find them here: http://snapshot.debian.org/package/libvdpau/ I don't see any change between -2 and -5 that could cause this.
