Such issues are of course much better discussed with upstream because
it doesn't add a proxy between the user experiencing the problem and
the upstream developers.

I'm following upstream's ML but, given the traffic, I don't always
"recognize" issues also reported in Debian BTS.

At the minimum, it may help upstream a lot because they usually are
more focused on their latest releases.

So, checking if you can reproduce the problem with the backported
package, hence the latest upstream version, will certainly help.
