I still see it with cups 1.5.2-8 and cups-filters 1.0.5-1, upgrading now
to check with current version...
and cups 1.5.2-11 / cups-filters 1.0.18-1 exhibit the blank-page printing
at least (I don't have a PDF that I know for sure to trigger the "ghostscript
takes forever" part of the bug handy right now, but feel free to mail me
the one that caused the problem for you and I can try it here too.)

I suspect, reading the Ubuntu bug reports, that some fixes were applied
specifically for Kyocera (and Brother, respectively) printers, and since
mine is a Lexmark those fixes don't trigger for me. I haven't looked at
the code though.
