Package: clang Version: 3.1+rt-1~exp2 Severity: wishlist Hi,
It seems that llvm/clang 3.2 is soon going to be released with some nice features (e.g., some automatic vectorization, even if not ready for prime time). It would be super nice to have newer versions of clang in unstable or even experimental, in the same fashion that there's a gcc-snapshot for evaluation/testing/bug reporting of clang. Just an excerpt from gcc-snapshot's description, which could be mimicked, if clang-snapshot were to be available: ,---- | Package: gcc-snapshot | Version: 20121008-1 | Installed-Size: 399454 | Maintainer: Debian GCC Maintainers <[email protected]> | Architecture: i386 | Provides: c++-compiler, c++abi2-dev | Description-en: A SNAPSHOT of the GNU Compiler Collection | This package contains a recent development SNAPSHOT of all files | contained in the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC). | . | The source code for this package has been exported from SVN trunk. | . | DO NOT USE THIS SNAPSHOT FOR BUILDING DEBIAN PACKAGES! | . | This package will NEVER hit the testing distribution. It is used for | tracking gcc bugs submitted to the Debian BTS in recent development | versions of gcc. `---- I am not filing an RFP bug, as I would like to see if the preferred way of the clang maintainers would be, if snapshot versions were provided, to "constantly" upload newer things to experimental or if introducing a new package would be preferred. Thanks for packaging clang in the first place, Rogério Brito. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.5-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf-8, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.utf-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages clang depends on: ii clang-3.1 3.1+rt-1~exp2 clang recommends no packages. clang suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- Rogério Brito : rbrito@{ime.usp.br,gmail.com} : GPG key 4096R/BCFCAAAA http://rb.doesntexist.org/blog : Projects : https://github.com/rbrito/ DebianQA: http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=rbrito%40ime.usp.br -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
