Hi, thanks for the reply,

dictionaries-common is a massively used package, since ispell
dictionaries, wordlists, as well as most aspell and some hunspell
dictionaries depend on it. If this were a general problem, should
have already triggered a lot of bug reports, that is why I tend to
think this is a problem at a particular box, or after a special chain
of events.

Of course, if I can get info about how things happened in that
particular box I'd be happy to try making the code more robust.

For wordlists, this is handled by `/usr/sbin/update-default-wordlist'
if you want to have a look. Note that last change to that code (is
created from `scripts/system/update-default.in') happened on Wed, 1
Jun 2011, more than one year ago.

Also note that the symlink is not created if
`dictionaries-common/default-wordlist' debconf value is set to manual,
but that does not happen in your box where `american (American
English)' is selected and symlink should have been created.

There is some info about dpkg work available at
`/var/log/dpkg.log[0-9]{.gz}' files. SInce this was recent it should
be in base `dpkg.log' or not too far from it.

Thanks for your feedback,
