IANADD, but here's a list of things that I encountered while testing out your package. - Since you use xz compression, please consider adding Pre-Depends: dpkg (>= 1.15.6) to debian/control (i.e. lintian tag data.tar.xz-member-without-dpkg-pre-depends, which I think has been recently removed).
