Hi Steffen, can you check if the versions currently in wheezy (0.16.7-2) or sid (0.17.4-1) also segfault? I've just had a report that suggested it was at least fixed in sid.
Having said that, unless you explicitly specify a different encoder in mpd.conf, mpd will default to vorbis, which is not available on armel due to the lack of an FPU on that platform (tremor, an integer-only decoder is used instead of the full Ogg Vorbis codec).
