Hi, i am pondering about the high cost of experiments with this issue. Regrettably, BD-R offer no dummy burning by growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dummy resp. by xorriso -as cdrecord -dummy.
But high speed DVD-R burning should transmit 20 MB/s near the end of the medium when speed surpasses 14x. These media can be used with above dummy options. They will stay unused (but may behave like being written until they get ejected). Another non-wasteful media type could be 4x BD-RE in conjunction with xorriso -as cdrecord stream_recording=on . (See man "xorrecord" for xorriso -as cdrecord options. -use-the-force-luke of growisofs is intentionally undocumented and ihas to be learned from the source code.)
