I haven't said "it doesn't work". I said that some features require
particular bios implementation and/or version. This does not mean
that the whole thing is broken.

Now, back to the topic: grub-firmware-qemu. I haven't heard of it
myself until you mentioned it here. It looks like they completely
omit bios and run grub on "pure hardware", but I haven't digged into
details. I don't see an immediate reason for it to not work, --
most likely grub will run there. How useful it is to boot some
real OS is a different question.

Maybe ask grub maintainers? Honestly I have no idea.

But at any rate you sure can try other things as bios, -- be
it alternative bios implementations or something entirely
different like grub firmware. Qemu depends on seabios for
a reason, it should provide a working system. You can play
with parts of this system on your own, using alternative
anything, but out of the box - without extra arguments
like -bios - it should work, and it works only in the way
it is currently shipped - depending and using components
which form a working and tested system.

This is why this bug is tagged "wontfix": it will continue
depending on the particular bios implementation, but you're
free to try any other of your choice.

Thanks,
