Interesting setup. I must confess I am not very knowledgeable about proxies, so please bear with me... > > squid-deb-proxy-client installs /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/30autoproxy which > contains: > > Acquire::http::ProxyAutoDetect > "/usr/share/squid-deb-proxy-client/apt-avahi-discover"; I wasn't aware of the existence of this APT configuration option... I see from apt changelog that it is present in unstable since apt/0.8.0, but I fail to find where it is documented... The apt.conf(5) man page does not seem to talk about it! Could you please tell me where I can find an explanation of this option and its use? > > This lets avahi try to find an squid/acng proxy for packages. What happens if you try to install or upgrade packages and apt-listbugs is invoked by apt-get (or another compatible package manager, such as aptitude, if you prefer)? Please paste the exact error that you get. Please also add the "-d" option as suggested near the end of /usr/share/doc/apt-listbugs/README.Debian.gz and paste the exact output that you get. > > Now if I manually set the proxy like: > > http_proxy="http://acng.example.com:3142/" apt-get install foo > > or > > http_proxy="http://proxy.example.com:8080/" apt-get install foo > > everything works as expected, but has the inconvenience of setting it manually > (and the need to remember the correct proxy for each network). Please let me understand: what do you need to do in your network in order to access http://bugs.debian.org, for instance with a web browser? Do you need to go through a proxy? Or can you also access it directly? Which proxy do you need to use, if any? Not acng, I suppose... Is this proxy auto-detected somehow? Mmmh, so, in your network, you are *forced* to use a proxy in order to access http web sites, if I understand correctly... > > Kinds regards, Lisandro. Please note that, in case something is missing in apt-listbugs to support your scenario, this feature has never been present in apt-listbugs. As a consequence, your bug report is considered as "found" in the initial release of apt-listbugs and is actually a feature request (that is to say, severity wishlist).
