Thanks, any help is apreciated. However please do not try yet with the commit I pointed out, it may well not be the problem (and as a matter of fact it looks completely harmless to me). This is becoming extremely confusing. When I tried last week problem appeared with mentioned commit. I am now having a different behavior. I am even getting diferent results for different users, extremely confusing, must try again way more systematically and with a lot of care. In the meantime, I wonder if this may have to do with upstream bug report http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.bugs/70407/focus=82310 It is about underscore, but deals also with a problem with commments in latex mode with possible differences between having auctex enabled or not.
