Apparently the initscripts package didn't automatically migrate the settings from /etc/default/rcS to /etc/default/tmpfs, but simply continues to read both files. I wasn't entirely sure about that and didn't check the related shell code. So thanks for the confirmation. Given your and Marco's feedback, let's just do the same and read both in the migration code.
