Hello!

Just thought I should mention here what I've been up to lately.

First of all I've looked through some of the bug reports on
util-linux and where it was easy to identify I've added some
"fixed-upstream" tags on bugs lacking this tag...
Even though we're still far from idenitifying all bugs fixed-upstream,
the current list already contains almost 50 bugs.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=util-linux;include=tags%3Afixed-upstream;dist=unstable
I don't know if it's a good idea to mention all of these in the
debian/changelog of the new package version, since it will clutter
it alot. Also, we'll likely find more bugs as we go along that we
find have been fixed by the new upstream release. So I think
it's better to just send mails to <bugnr>[email protected]
containing the correct version number manually.

On a second note, I spent some time yesterday digging into the
mount "hash passphrases - debian compatibility" patch.
As it turns out this patch is now obsolete. Upstream has deprecated
and then removed all encryption support in losetup, in favor of
cryptsetup. This means we don't need to worry about me temporarily
dropping the patch in my package, since it should be permanently dropped.
Outstanding work here is primarily to document it in NEWS !

As I've not heard anyone mention what work is planned or point to any
published work in progress on util-linux package I'd really like to
know what the problem would be to upload my work to experimental.
That would allow me to start identifying and digging into architecture
specific issues.

Given the blocker on doing that, I'll probably focus on looking at new
functionality/utilities provided in the new upstream release next.
I think it's a bit unfortunate, because I'd like to avoid entangling too
much changes in the same version. I was hoping that I could start off
with a version that is updated but basically just "on par" with
what was already provided in the previous version and focus on
potential regressions, but oh well....

Just as earlier, I'm desperately seeking feedback!

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson
