[...] This bug is still present in GNU Emacs 24.4.1. I now get a "GConf-WARNING" message instead of "GConf Error". It was said: "It is a GConf limitation/bug." so that perhaps the bug should be reassigned there. But if this isn't going to be fixed any time soon in GConf, perhaps Emacs should avoid using it, at least when run as root (I'm not aware of GConf features I'm missing, but the main problem is that these messages are distracting and take space in the terminal).
