I don't use Emacs, so I don't really know, but it sounds like some
things are fundamentally broken.

Unfortunately, I'm really busy right now and cannot provide more info.

It sounds like ledger-el is pretty broken with 3.1 and applying all
commits that touch ledger-el in git since 3.1 solves the majority of
these issues.

I don't know if this explanation is good enough for a freeze exception
(even though I believe the fixes are).
