sure, but removing that line wouldn't prevent it from being shown in gnome, it just would make it visible everywhere. at least right now i think it wouldn't be shown in KDE, for example. :) fwiw, that line was added in 5.06-1 (2008-07-22) to fix a lintian warning, if Tormod Volden's debian/changelog is to be believed. and all of the .desktop files for the hacks appear to be in the debian packaging, and not in upstream (upstream only ships ./driver/screensaver-properties.desktop.in). the .desktop files appear to be shipped specifically for the benefit of gnome-screensaver, though: they were introduced to resolve https://bugs.debian.org/410095 So if someone from the GNOME team can determine that these are no longer needed, maybe we can just drop them entirely to resolve this issue? I hope that someone who understands any of the packages involved in this little intersection better than i do can make a decision about what needs to happen here, and reassign this bug if appropriate to the right package.
