Just tested here printing to PDF and they're printed as seen on Claws Mail
message view, nothing strange. Without an actual example I can't say more.

Is that a Claws Mail configuration setting or something else?

Try to launch it with an english locale to get the exact names, e.g.:
Run “env LC_MESSAGES=C /usr/bin/claws-mail” in a terminal.

Well, I can't, so I'd say is some misconfiguration of your printing subsystem,
not a Claws Mail issue.
