Neil, leaving out changes 2 and 3 seems reasonable. A patch with only
change 1 is attached. You can test it by running vmdebootstrap under
nohup when redirecting the output (when building on a remote system
for example):
nohup vmdebootstrap (--options) > vmdebootstrap.out &
