I've done some investigation of this, and I believe this is a result of a compiler flag that is added by dpkg-buildflags as the problem goes away when I compile with just "-ggdb -lm". I'll have to go through and identify which flag it is that's causing the issue and see if I can identify why the problem is occuring.
