I guess that's something the upstream developpers would need to fix. it seems like the kde developpers decided - in their endless wisdom - to drop the support for xembbed systemtrays. I guess workrave uses gtk and would need to use the appindicator library for the systemtray support. (most gtk application seem to already to that, installing the appindicator libraries on my system achieved that most gtk application had a working system tray icon again, but not workrave).

I don't know anything about the KDE Plasma 5 system tray. Is that something packaging-related (e.g. we need to install the existing files in a different directory) or is that something that the upstream developers need to fix?
