> Uninstall the libvdpau-va-gl1 package and restart VLC. until this is tracked all the way down, a workaround that made video available again for me without uninstalling packages was explicitly choosing "VA-API video" in the "Hardware decoding" option of "Input / Codecs" / "Video codecs" / "FFmpeg" in the Advanced Preferences dialog.
