I am not sure 8 is mentioned anywhere. I vaguely remember resorting to
wikipedia to find out what all these alternatives were about, and I may
have read it there.

imagemagick-6.q16 package:
Short description - "image manipulation programs -- quantum depth Q16"
Last bit of long description - "This version of imagemagick is compiled
for quantum depth of 16 bits."

imagemagick package:
Short description - "image manipulation programs -- binaries"
Last bit of long description - "This package include links to quantum
depth specific binaries and manual pages."

Now that I have studied the package a little, I know what the
descriptions mean (and I probably should have read them again before
filing the bug :-) ). But anyway, the imagemagick long description could
probably be expanded to give the users guidance about which package to
install of these two, and later updated when/if there are other
alternatives.

Maybe:
This package include links to quantum depth specific binaries (currently
for a quantum depth of 16 bits) and manual pages.

Thanks for the fast response and looking after such a beast of an
application!
