Package: mapivi
Version: 0.9.7-1.1
Severity: normal

This upstream has not released the tarball recently from 2008 but he is still
actively updating code in the SVN repo.

In his svn repo started 2009 as r1, now it is r334 in 2016.
  svn checkout svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/mapivi/code/ mapivi-code (SF web site
info)
  git svn clone svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/mapivi/code/ mapivi-code (This works
better)

This is one of a few GUI interface tool to batch adjust the internal
EXIF time stamp with fixed time difference which is quite convenient
when you realize your picture files have wrong time stamp inside. This
is important if you have multiple camera and if you want to match
time line properly.

(FYI: phatch was suppose to have similar capability but it is not
working in Debian now and I tried to port FEDORA patches but there were
still some problems. Also its real upstream is non-active. So I think
it is not worth spending time on my time. Writing script with jhread
etc., is a bit cumbersome.)

So it is a good idea to bring this tool up to date by packaging the
updated upstream code.

If no one objects, I may hijack this when I find some time :-)
The maintainer is not touching this package for 8 years.

It's amazing how stable this software is with just one NMU to fix a Perl
oddity change.

There are only 3 bugs which are easy to be addressed:

#592945 mapivi: the add coment and edit comment windows do not have any buttons
 --> "Add comment" seems OK
 --> "Edit comment" does not open .. ???
 --> Probably fixed in upstream by now ???
#796376 mapivi: please make the build reproducible
 --> patch available in BTS
#675948 mapivi: Doesn't appear in the XFCE menu
 --> Its problem for Gnome/KDE too
 --> Just add a desktop file if upstream has not

#NOT_REPORTED
 --> Probably fixed in upstream by now ???
 --> Upstream comment says v1.1 so naming upstream version like 1.0.r??? should
be OK
 --> Does not return to the shell prompt upon exit sometimes ??? (needs to be
checked)
 --> Missing usable watch file
 --> Strange console outputs:

For now I am a happy user of this old but very stable tool.
