I have the same problem here since the mutt upgrade yesterday in testing.
I noticed that in my case the compressed mailbox after the crash contains only the mail I tried to save in this folder (xz compression). All other previous mails are gone.
This means data loss for the user, so I think this bug should have a much higher priority. Please act fast!
