The same problem with Mate and Menta icon themes.
The file managers used by gnome and cinnamon are different, and they have different logics about when to show which icon. In particular the icon used by nautilus is text-x-generic while the one used by nemo is text-x-preview, this is probably related to the preview settings in the nemo configuration.
