I think both bash and zsh, which I use, do it by default. There are some
escape sequences to control this behaviour.

I use zsh, and my .zshrc, mostly generated, does this for me. However, I
used roxterm before and never had this problem.

Hmmm - see above. Feel free to suggest something, regarding escape
sequences. I'm happy to test them.
