Hi,

Yes I can reproduce. I just cannot establish a scenario to reproduce it systematically. I'll try yours. I hope some debug file will be possible.

Sincerely,

Dear Maintainer,

I am encountering exactly the same issue as the one described in archived bug #770435.

Summary of the issue: The layout applied to the keyboard is English, despite being set to French in the MATE conf applet.

My configuration seems to be the same as the one used by Sebastien (the initial reporter):
   * "fr" selected in /etc/default/keyboard.
* Nothing changed in the MATE keyboard applet: French is the only keyboard layout available.

I have observed a few strange things with the MATE desktop applet:

1) When French is the only listed layout in the applet, the Desktop starts and sets my keyboard with an english layout (original problem described by Sebastien).

2) If I add a second French keyboard layout in the list, the problem disappears and the keyboard remains in French, even after a reboot. 3) If I add an English keyboard layout in the list in addition to the two French layouts already present, the desktop starts and sets my keyboard with the english layout, whatever the order of the layouts in the applet list is.

I am at your disposal to provide more information.

Thanks,

Olivier

@Olivier and Jean-Philippe: Can you reproduce this issue for Debian testing using MATE 1.16? Or is it gone there?

Thanks,
Mike
