As a more general comment, I find that using dictionaries to find the
"best" word to be counter-productive. Whilst there might be a definition
which captures exactly what you are after including all the corner-cases
and features of the software if the word itself does not effectively
communicate it without the the context of the dictionary, then it is ipso
facto a poor choice IMHO.

But this is a more prescriptivist vs descriptivist philosophical debate
which is probably best had with some fine brandy rather than on the BTS.
