I am not very optimistic about this. The mail from 15 February is still unanwered, as well as the IRC /query on 24 February. Seems like a silent rejection to me. I've put some remedy code that would shorten the 40-character hashes in 1.44, but the URLs are still longer than what they would be with a shortening service. By the way, the shortening is configured per bot instance -- instance admins can choose to use another shortening service, as long as it is supported by WWW::Shorten.
