I got mostly the same experiences about that nasty issue and Thunderbird
never should segfault in such a situation, but well, it does. :)
And yes, this make Thunderbird mostly unusable as I use Enigmail a lot.

We first can look if the Debian Enigmail package is something different
than the upstream extension. It shouldn't as it's all 'just' some JS
code but who now.

Currently I've no idea why the segfault is happen and how to fix this in
the end. Maybe we can find some corner that looks like the right
direction.
