I don't have time to UTSL etc. now but I think you are supposed to
pass the whole version, not just the upstream version, on the command
line.

If you don't, then I guess it could invent something for you.  Is -1
really the best default ?

Or if we don't want it defaulting this, we could make it a snag not to
have passed a revision.
