We should have the -1 default.

It is counterintuitive to be typing the string "new-upstream" and then
following it with something other than an upstream version, so I predict
that people will make the mistake a lot, so it shouldn't be a snag.

And if -1 is not the right choice (which is almost never true), you can
just add another commit changing it, or if you notice soon enough,
rebase to edit gdr's commit.
