appreciated, dmitry: apologies, it catches me off-guard when things don't work. it was just that the decision to rail-road systemd in (which is software that itself is being developed incredibly unethically) - was itself made unethically (not thinking of the harm that could result, and without wider consultation, and the consultation that *was* done was completely ignored!). *some* of the damage has been undone by allowing sysvinit to be used.
i've sent in what i could find: it's nothing like the postinst script expects, which is a series of 4 separate initscripts (that's very strange, btw, that there's some code in the postinst that *expects* the 4 /etc/init.d/gitlab-xxxx init scripts to be there), however i can confirm that what i found actually works. gitlab is very very resource-heavy, so if i make the decision to keep it, i will definitely (need to) create separate initscripts, and will send them in, ok? good luck, and apologies for getting annoyed, i was really caught off-guard. l. --- crowd-funded eco-conscious hardware: https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68 On Wed, Sep 26, 2018 at 4:51 AM, Dmitry Smirnov <[email protected]> wrote: > On Wednesday, 26 September 2018 11:45:02 AM AEST lkcl wrote: >> it would be really helpful if people could stop assuming that everyone >> forcibly fucking wants systemd shoved at them. and no, ordering people >> to go use freebsd or devuan is not acceptable. >> >> for goodness sake please be a little more careful and considerate. >> i'll try to track down some sysvinit scripts in a followup and post >> them later. > > It would be polite not to assume that lack of SysV scripts is deliberate. > There are not enough people involved into maintenance of such a complex > package as GitLab and writing init scripts from scratch and maintaining them > is not an easy task. > Yes, your help would be appreciated if you care enough for init scripts to > contribute them or to fund/sponsor someone who could write them. > > Until then systemd remains a viable option for those who have no systemd- > fobia and wishes to run GitLab... > > -- > Cheers, > Dmitry Smirnov. > > --- > > It is impossible to imagine Goethe or Beethoven being good at billiards > or golf. > -- H.
