Package: libgphoto2-2 Version: 2.1.6-5.2 Tags: patch Hi!
hal (and applications that rely on it, like gnome-volume-manager) currently does not recognize non-PtP cameras. For that to work, there needs to be an fdi file which assigns the following attributes to a camera: info.capabilities="camera" camera.access_method="libgphoto2" This list needs to be generated either in hal or in libgphoto, but since libgphoto has the primary data (list of supported cameras), Sjoerd and I agreed that libgphoto would be the most appropriate place for it. You can find the Ubuntu patch here: http://patches.ubuntu.com/patches/libgphoto2.hal-fdi.diff Adding the FDI to the preprobe section will ensure that the access_method is correctly overwritten to be 'ptp' for PtP-capable cameras.
