Well. I'm not sure then what is wrong in your setup. As far as wwids are concerned, they are working on that version of multipath-tools, on my local setup. I am inclined to say that it must be a problem specific to your setup but I don't have the necessary information to make that statement. You'll have to dive some more to make any conclusions.
