Adding IPv6 addresses to an existing /etc/network/interfaces file is cumbersome, as IPv6 does not support the logical interfaces, like eth0:23. It would be convenient to make the /etc/network/interfaces file support similar concepts for both IPv4 and IPv6 interfaces. Also, for inet6 interfaces, the iproute2 commands can be used to handle interface operations instead of ifconfig.
Patch for these two changes attached.
