Installed tigervnc-viewer to remotely control a Raspberry Pi. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Initially disable full-screen over all monitors. Only performed once. 1. View Raspberry Pi desktop using tigervnc-viewer. 2. Press F8 to get context menu. 3. Select "Options" 4. In "screen" tab, de-selected the "Enable full-screen mode over all monitors option" (I have multiple displays & only wanted the VNC view on one of them) 5. Select "OK" Use VNC viewer. 1. View Raspberry Pi desktop using tigervnc-viewer. 2. Press F8 to get context menu. 3. Select full-screen - VNC viewer goes into full-screen mode. * What was the outcome of this action? The "Applications", "Places" & "System" menus on my main desktop no longer function. When clicked they are outlined and look similar to buttons. (I have just discovered that selecting any window on my desktop, or simply clicking the desktop, restores the expected functionality to the menus - making this much more of an annoyance than a bug.) * What outcome did you expect instead? "Applications", "Places" & "System" menus should function as normal.can you try the following? Log into the machine via SSH as the same user. When the menus freeze, run this from inside the SSH session: export DISPLAY=<vnc-display-number> (can be obtained via 'echo $DISPLAY' inside the VNC session) marco --replace Does this bring back the menus? I assume that we need to move this bug over to the src:marco package (marco is MATE's window manager). Greets, MikeSo I have desktop, laptop & pi. On desktop I have vncviewer with pi desktop displayed. In pi session I "echo $DISPLAY" -> :0.0 On laptop I open terminal & "ssh desktop". I "export DISPLAY=:0.0" & "marco --replace" I get message in terminal "Window manager warning: Treating resize request of legacy application 0x380002e (pi2 - Tige) as a fullscreen request" Prompt doesn't return in ssh session, but menus do work.
It should have been "marco --replace &". Sorry. With the "&" at the end, you get your prompt back.
I often use compiz, which isn't using marco as wm, and this bug occurs when using compiz as well.
Urgh, we may have to clone this bug for compiz then, too. Another question: do the system tray applets work while menus are stuck? Can you report back, what version of marco you are running? Is there any chance to test this on different setups (e.g. VNC into your laptop / your desktop / etc.)?
What VNC server technology do you use on your pi? x11vnc? This is definitely not a vncviewer issue, but you get stuck on the VNC server side somewhere.
