I can't reproduce this behavior within a Gnome3 session, no matter what
I try. Currently I'm using wayland.

This let me assume this is then mainly a issue within the KDE desktop
environment, not Thunderbird. For sure this needs more proofing by
checking this situation within other DEs.

Hello Carsten,

if I delete ~/.thunderbird and restart Thunderbird with a new profile
the error does not occur.

I would not like to loose all my old emails. Is there a safe way to
refresh the email profile without loosing mails?

I copied

# Profile location
.thunderbird/profiles.ini
# Account settings
.thunderbird/*.default/pref*.js
# Calendar data
.thunderbird/*.default/calendar-data/*
# Mail history
.thunderbird/*.default/Mail/*
# Adressbook
.thunderbird/*.default/abook.sqlite
# Collected addresses
.thunderbird/*.default/history.sqlite

from my backup to a blank folder ~/.thunderbird and now everything seems
to be working fine.

Best regards

Heinrich
