[snip] This bug will be solved when updating to Kodi ≥ 19, which prominently declares it migrated to Python 3. Of course some plugins might not be py3 ready, so it's probably time to stage the kodi-without-py2 packages in experimental and report bugs upstream. The Python Team is moving ahead with making at py2 dep RC for low popcon leaf packages this week, and while there isn't a roadmap (afaik), I suspect this bug will become serious this fall (2020).
