Dear Maintainer,

I want .XCompose to substitute a Malayalam character U0D19 with its conugate
form U0D19 U0D4D U0D19. I couldn't get this to
work. So, I tried to see if English substitutions would work or not. My
.XCompose is, for the purpose of testing, consists of

include "%L"
<W> : "a long substitution"

When I type W (holding down Shift), I get W itself. It does not get substituted
with "a long substitution". This was tried in
Konsole, Kate and Firefox. Everywhere the results are same. I tried the same
under LXQt, ICEWM and XFCE, all with the same result.

I installed Debian 32 bit with KDE using netinstall in an old netbook and tried
the same. In the fresh install, in Konsole, W gets
substituted with "a", the first character of "a long substitution" instead of
the whole "a long substitution"
