Sorry, it seems I failed to properly test this bug. The reason why it appeared to break going from 2.3.2-1.1 to 2.3.2-2 was because the default fonts changed to DejaVu. In fact, DejaVu spacing is wrong with 2.3.2-1.1 as well as later fontconfig versions. So this is probably a DejaVu bug.
