Actually... after trying the many things in that link, some of which I repeated with sudo just to try (some had slightly better results with sudo, but still no luck), nothing worked, but much later, I rebooted the PC, and it then worked. So, some of the steps in that link worked, although I don't know which, and it/they need a restart (or re-login?) to work. BTW, one thing that still doesn't work is the feeder, although I haven't found any command/program that is compatible with the feeder AND documents its usage properly, so it may be the fault of those commands, and not of hplip.
