Thanks for doing all that work Bas. I'll put your fixes in and try to get to the bottom of this. The package has been reworked to use cmake from the next release which will get rid of the homegrown pile of perl, tcl, make and seddery this 20-year old bit of software uses. So a lot of this stuff (like using sed/awk to get the libproj version) may well change. So I'll probably wait for that before putting in a lot of time on build-system issues.
