I agree and already contacted the maintainer a few hours ago in 
private if he is interested in co-maintaining it.  Upstream has 
become more active in recent years and I already set up an 
up-to-date repo for packaging locally.

I can do that, not today anymore, but within a few days.

I replaced tftpd-hpa a few days ago on a server with buster and later
the last week I used it on my bullseye desktop for experiments with
di-netboot-assistant.  I did not pay special attention when installing,
but it works using rlinetd here.
